Recently, I was having a discussion with a friend about all of the amazing toy lines we had as a kid in the 80s. We were reminiscing about our favorite figures, the artwork, and how toy lines have changed or have disappeared over the years. After our discussion, I came home and started searching for websites dedicated to other toy lines. Although I was able to find some sites without having to search too hard, other toy lines were almost impossible to find information or images on. I eventually found sites related to other lines, but it took some time to do so.
So, after I did this, I came up with the concept of Ultimate Toy Collections. The question I posed to myself was “why not have a site dedicated to both collectors of these toy lines and those that want to reminisce about the toys they once owned as a child.”
I find it interesting that whenever I have a discussion about what I collect with someone who doesn’t collect toys, I always hear the same sad story; their parents decided to sell their toys at a garage sale, gave their toys away to charity, or threw them in the trash once they moved out of the house. The common phrase I hear after reminiscing is “I wish I still had….”. They always seem to have that one favorite toy that they cherished as a kid, and now it’s gone. This site is not only dedicated to fellow collectors, but to those who no longer own their favorite toy, but want to either reminisce or show their kids the toys they had as a kid.
I’m very fortunate to have parents who didn’t get rid of things my sisters and I had as children. Although they may be viewed as pack rats, I am very thankful that they understood the importance of these toys to us as kids. I have always wanted to pass on the toys I had as a kid to my own children as well my nephews and nieces. I want them to be able to enjoy them just as I did as a kid. Although they will have their own modern toys to play with, hopefully they will be able to incorporate the old with the new!
